Out of the Abyss
This Out of the Abyss review is to give you some insight on what to expect of this book.
Out of the Abyss is a complex yet flexible Adventure book with a Campaign set to take their players from level 1-15.
It is not a book I would recommend for First Time GM’s to attempt. Whilst it is a very exciting adventure there a lot of NPC’s to manage and a twisted mechanic that can be unpredictable.
Overall Impression
That being said it is a wonderful adventure set in the Forgotten Realms. Being a fan of The Legend of Drizzt I was immediately hooked with that story in mind.
I don’t want to spoil the story so I can’t go into detail about what occurs.
However naturally the majority of the setting of the story is in The Underdark. A subterranean environment ruled by fear and darkness.
So if your players haven’t had much time set there this is the book to break past those limits. As it takes your players through a lot of the major places within you may know about before and some you don’t.
Within of course comes with some new items and creatures native to the Underdark, great for that variety.
Conclusion
This campaign has everything any party wants for a challenging adventure. Intrigue, mystery, memorable NPC’s and most importantly memorable fights.
So if you want to induce your players into some maddening twists and limited resource challenge then by all means get this book.
However I cannot stress this enough, I recommend only experienced GMs to run this adventure. There are a lot of overwehleming elements but that can be a good thing.
